This article explains how to connect RTP with Slack for notifications. To connect RTP with Slack, you must be an owner of your company’s Slack installation to continue. This is very important.
First we want to setup the Slack APP within the Slack API Interface:
To start go here: https://api.slack.com/apps and click on Create New App
You will be presented with this pop up. Under App Name you can enter anything – This will be the name used for the notifications within Slack from RTP. We recommend RTP or something that will help your team recognize the source. In the second box drop down and select your Workspace you want this app to work with.
After creating the slack app, it will redirect you to the “Basic Information” page. If you scroll down you will see the Application Credentials Section. You will need this information when connecting Slack to RTP within the settings section.
Do not close this tab – you will need this information to add within RTP AND you will have to add certain information from RTP to Slack.
In a new tab, without closing the Slack settings, please login to RequestTrackerPro at https://support.requesttrackerpro.com. On the top right click on the cog menu and select Settings.
Once at the Settings menu you will want to click on Add Slack
You will next see the Slack settings page. The next screen will provide you with the redirect URL. We will need to enter this back within the Slack website to allow RTP to communicate. Please copy the URL highlighted in your instance below.
In your original tab you used to access your Slack settings please click on OAuth & Permissions toward the bottom left.
The next screen will look like the following. Add the Redirect URL you got from RTP here
Once this is added you will need to click the green button for “Save URLs”. Then we go back to your tab with RTP and we will set the Client ID and Client Secret.
After clicking the “Authorize” button, the page will then redirect you to Slacks website for authorization. You need to confirm when presented with this authorization request.
At this point once you have clicked Install it should be ready to go. You will need to add Rules within the cog menu for notifications.
